Blisscovered - My experience

Ok Girls, you know that it was raining Blisscovered Boxes this week. Just one box is too less to pass a judgement on these guys, so I'm not going to "review" review them. I'll just share my feelings about the first box and it's contents.

Ok, so in case the pictures in the earlier post were not clear, my box contained the following (I have added the approx prices for the samples in brackets. These prices were calculated using the full size retail prices of these products)

1. Lancome Genefique Youth Activating Concentrate - 5 ml (This is of Rs. 541 in value). The 60 ml bottle of this costs Rs, 6500

2. Diesel Loverdose - 1.5 ml (Rs. 84). Full size 75 ml costs Rs. 4200.

3. Forest Essentials Honey & Vanilla Bath & Shower Oil (Rs. 244). Full size 200 ml costs Rs. 975

4. The Nature's Co.
a. Lemon Peel Exfoliating Body Wash - 10 ml (Rs. 31) Full size: Rs. 775 for 250 ml tube.
b. Coffee Face Scrub - 5 ml (Rs. 21). Full Size: Rs. 525 for 125 ml tube

5. YSL Top Secrets Natural Action Exfoliator (Rs. 450). Full size: 75ml for Rs. 2250.

So in all the box delivered is around worth Rs. 1371, which I think is a pretty good deal.

The box was done up very professionally and I liked the personalisation.

I haven't tried much from the box yet, save the Diesel Perfume & I quite love it. I think I might get the full size version of this.

In addition to all this, they have also sent a Rs. 300 /- voucher that can be redeemed against any of the above mentioned products. I liked that they have sent us some good quantities and not just 1 ml sachets.

Some people might argue that these are "free" samples that one would get in any case if you were to visit these counters & purchase a product. But then I'm not likely to saunter in into a Lancome or YSL any time soon and drop a bomb on a product just because I like the way it sounds and feels on the basis of a one time trial. This is a good way for me to use & really decide if the product works for me.

What I didn't like was the Nature's co Body wash. The quantity is too less and this 10 ml would barely last me two uses (I'm a lot of lather girl). I think I'm gonna unselect body products in my preferences form because I realize that the quantities are going to be less & this will be a bit of a waste.

And yes, there was no makeup in this box, despite me selecting that option. But I'm not really bummed about it. I was pretty okay getting a skincare box as well. Just as I'd be okay getting a box full of makeup too. I love both equally. :-)

I'm just very glad they didn't send me either the Omved lip balm or the FE Hair oil. I just bought Kiehl's lip balm two weeks ago & don't really want any more now & I can't use Hair oil in my relaxed hair.

I have signed up for the February box now. I was initially gonna sign up for the 3 months deal, but then I decided to wait & watch for a while.

So what do you feel about the box? Have you signed up for the Feb one?

  1. Not bad I would say...though its a bit too early to pass a full judgement...

Would love to know your take on YSL exfoliator and the Lancome stuff..

    1. I have used the YSL one twice now, and it seems quite good tbh :D

Lancome, I'm yet to open that one :P

  2. I was wondering about the box and the fear of getting sachets etc kept me away from the first month's subscription.
Tanz, could you kindly tell me if , after receiving the box, I want to purchase the full size, is there Cash on Delivery option there too?
I don;t have credit card and my debit doesn't work online ( Maestro)

    1. Yes! You can definitely do cash on delivery for the full sized products as well! Let us know if you have any other questions!

  3. Sounds like a good deal..but it really depends..I agree wid the waiting n watching part..if they keep up wid the high end brands then its good..

    Thanks for the info!! :)

  4. woahh..pretty lil things.the coffee scrub is awsome. am using it now <3

    1. I am yet to start using it - but it does smell nice :)

  5. just a curious question - why can't one use oil on relaxed hair??? or, is it just your personal preference of not using oil??? and, what exactly is a relaxed hair???

    1. LOL! So many questions..

My stylist asked me not to use oil on relaxed hair. This is a precaution that I have heard time and again even from other girls who have got similar treatment, and relaxed hair = chemically straightened hair.

  6. Rightly put! I got Clarins white plus clear peeling lotion(is actually a toner but why the peeling god knows! I applied i on my face and tried to see if it's a peel after all! but nope, it's a toner..and dare I say a lovely one? :) ) and o bath oil but brahmi hair oil! =D

    1. I wish I had got that one too!! It is the only one prdt that made me feel bad when it was missing in my box - & it is such a good size at 30 ml! :)

  7. Wowww-I am hoping of ordering one next month!!! This is a wonderful scheme-for people like us-who always love to try new products!!!!

    1. So glad you are a fan of blisscovered! Sign up for the next box at! Or enter the giveaway contest here:

  8. Great post. I loved my January box and have signed up for the three months subscription too. But is it only me who has got the Idyllic by Guerlain Perfume cos everyone seems to have received Loverdose by Diesel? I loved it though.

This is a great deal for moms like me who are stuck in a beauty rut.

    1. It sounds really nice!! I agree, it is a good way to try out new things. I wish my next box has a lot of makeup though - as I am stuck in a makeup rut of my own :P

  11. I'm only interested in Lancome Genefique Youth Activating Concentrate from this month's box. I wish they'd put some makeup in there too. I'll decide whether to sign up after seeing their Feb box :)

    1. They do seem to have a tie-up with MUFE, Clarins & Guerlain - so even I am hoping to get to try some Guerlain makeup next time.

Reetha, Amla & Shikakai Home Made Shampoo - Weekend Experiment

Good Morning Lovelies, I hope your weekend was fun. Mines was, well, ho-hum, but anyways, we are not talking about that here (let’s save that cribbing for twitter).
I have been suffering from quite a bit of hair fall since some time. I have tried changing products to using intensive conditioning and the works. It stops the hair fall for while, but then it rears its ugly head again.
So on lark, & for lack of better things to do, my best friend & I decided to make some Reetha – Amla – Shikakai shampoo at home. This century old ayurvedic herbal concoction is reputed to not only strengthen hair, but also darken it and stop hair fall.
I got the 3 biggies from a local kirana store. All 3 are priced at 15 Rs for 100gms.

How to: Soak 5 pieces of Shikakai, 4 balls of Reetha  (Soapnut) & handful of Amla (Indian Gooseberry)  in about 500 ml of water overnight. In the morning, heat the mixture on gas till it just starts to boil. Let it cool, when lukewarm mash all the amla, reetha and…

Skin Care Myth: Sunscreen will stop you from Tanning

Image via Wikipedia I know I did a recent article on skin care myths (read it here), but I don't know how I forgot to mention this particular myth. In any case I think this warranted a post on its own.

Myth: If I use a suncreen regularly and religiously, I will not tan.

Fact: This is a very simplistic statement. But before I bust this myth, kindly bear through a science lecture. This is to bring all readers of all backgrounds on the same knowledge level.

Lets define sunscreen (from Wikipedia):Sunscreen (also commonly known as sunblock or sun cream) is a lotion, spray, gel or other topical product that absorbs or reflects "some" of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation on the skin exposed to sunlight and thus helps protect against sunburn. Sunscreen helps protect only against direct DNA damage as it cannot dissipate UV as harmless heat.

The SPF of a sunscreen is a laboratory measure of the effectiveness of sunscreen — the higher the SPF, the more protection a sunscreen …

I made "Washed Ghee" at home and it turned out great!

Yesterday I posted about the importance of fat in our diet. While doing research for the same I came across the recipe for "Washed Ghee" or Shata Dhaut Ghrita (100 times washed ghee).

After I read about this miracle at home cream, it was inevitable that I would try to create this cream myself. All I needed apparently was some cow ghee & water.

So I made it last evening. And here is how it went.

For those readers who haven't read the earlier post: Hundred times washed ghee is prepared from organic cow milk ghee by washing it in purified water, repeatedly, 100 times in a copper vessel, using a specific prescribed method while chanting some mantras

This procedure transforms the ghee into a soft, cooling, nourishing, silky unguent that is used as a traditional moisturizer and anti wrinkle skin cream. It produces radiant and glowing skin, especially for people with easily inflamed skin. It can be used as a daily face and body moisturizer or for facial massage. Apply it for…
